How To Build A Swing Set
If you are wondering how to build a swing set, wooden swing sets can be built according to a specified set of plans.
A swing set is the standard part of any playground equipment and especially in a backyard play area. The material needed is some form of hardwood to withstand the elements of nature ( cedar and redwood are extremely good examples). Two X-braces are required to be planted firmly in holes in the ground approximately six to eight feet apart and secured by pouring concrete around them. Concrete is needed around the bottoms of the posts to keep the wooden swing sets from tipping or falling over. The X braces will cross each other about one foot from the top leaving a V shape for the top of the frame. Once these sidepieces are in place the top of the swing set can be attached. This is just a basic plan of how to build a swing set.
Another aspect of how to build a swing set is attaching the swings themselves to the frame. Ropes or chains are tied through holes drilled in the top of the frame. A seat should be attached to the rope or chain before it is tied to the frame. This is done by boring two holes in a seat shaped piece of wood and the rope inserted through the holes bringing the seat to the centre of the rope. The wood can also be notched on each side to fit between the rope, but this type of seat falls off the rope very often.
Plans for how to build a swing set will show you that wooden swing sets can be made to hold one, two or three swings depending on the size of the wood used in the construction. However, the usual size of wooden swings is a double swing set, as very strong material would be needed for the length of three swings. The swings can be of varying sizes depending on the size of the children it is being built for. The rope in swings built for older children will need to be placed farther from the ground than those built for toddlers.
